Proposal to Establish a Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism Led by Nepal, India, and China: Prime Minister Balen Shah
Khem Raj Upadhyay, Kathmandu, Ashwin 9. Prime Minister Balen Shah has proposed the establishment of a Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism, led by Nepal, India, and China, to address climate-related disasters.
He put forward this proposal while addressing the United Nations General Assembly on Friday morning.
Noting that the Himalayan region is home to approximately two billion people and serves as a vital part of the Earth's life-support system, he emphasized the need to use this mechanism to facilitate the exchange of satellite data, conduct joint monitoring of hazardous glacial lakes, and strengthen early warning systems.
He stated that by ensuring cross-border coordination during disasters, the Himalayan region should be transformed into a laboratory for international cooperation rather than a boundary defined by fragmented information.
